Design 411 – June Tip of the Month for a Home Revamp: Use Fabric to Soften the look of a Room

June 3, 2014

This week’s tip: Pillows are the easiest way to add style to a room and there are so many fun fabrics to choose from.

Last month, I gave you tips on how you could use paint to revamp your home.  This month, fabric is the subject for my Décor Revolution tips.

You can find wonderful fabrics for relatively low prices and you only need a yard to make a couple of pillows.  There are some great online fabric sites.  (beverlys.com, fabric.com, joann.com, just to name a few) You can also make a pillow from a vintage tablecloth, a tote bag, an old sweater or skirt; some old drapery…the list goes on and on.  You can have a lot of fun when it comes to making pillows. If you like thrift shopping or flea markets, you can keep your eye out for things that have the right colors for your room, and then grab them up to make pillows from, when you spot them.  You can also add things like buttons, beads and trim to your pillows to give them more personality.

Pillows are one of the easiest DIY projects.  You can even make them without having to know how to sew, by using Stitch Witchery tape, a  fusible bonding web that you iron on, available in most fabric shops and also on the internet.  Get really creative with pillows and share your ideas with Décor Revolution.  We want to see what you come up with.
