Design 411 – This Week’s Tip – Paint an Old Piece of Furniture in a Fun Color & Give it a New Life

Are you’re beautiful display pieces getting lost on black or dark wood-stained bookshelves or hutches?  You can help to show off your collectibles and even brighten up the entire room by painting the back of your shelves with a bright color. Or if you have a white built-in or free-standing bookcase, give the back of the shelves a pop of color and liven up your space.  Choose a color that coordinates with other features in the room like your window treatments, a chair or some accent pillows. Paint is something you can always change easily if you want a new look in a few years.  This is an easy DIY (Do it Yourself) project if you enjoy painting.  Just be sure to tape off, and cover with paper, the parts of the shelves that you aren’t painting to protect them.  If you like the look but aren’t into doing it yourself, hire a handyman to do it for you.

If you decide to try this design tip on your bookshelves, please share your after photos with us at Décor Revolution.  We would love to see what you come up with.
