Repurposing Project Using Some Bold Color

One of my favorite client’s is crazy for color and pattern, which I really enjoy about her. She is so much fun to work with. So, the project was to give her small dining area a refresh and we started by refinishing the table with two different finishes. We used a beautiful oyster finish on the legs and apron of the table and kept the existing cherry finish on the tabletop. The top was damaged though, so it needed to be repaired. Then we matched the finish on the dining chairs to the legs on the table. The table and chairs were two different kinds of wood, so this was tricky, and the table was all cherry to start, so the table legs needed to be bleached to give them the lighter finish, but my refinisher did a beautiful job.

Here is a mood board of what we selected for the fabric options to then upholster the chairs. My client wanted a different fabric on the seats and the backs of the chairs and something that would coordinate with the colors in the nearby living room. I found so many exciting fabrics to choose from and when we had to narrow it down we decided to use the fuchsia ikat fabric on all four seats and then do two of the chair backs with the velvet, moss and pink, vein fabric and two of them with the moss and fuchsia, diamond fabric. They are all upholstery weight, high quality fabrics and coordinate so nicely together. I just love mixing patterns together like this. My textile design background brings it out in me.

Two dining room chairs upholstered with ikat fabric on seats and two different fabrics on backs. One with diamond fabric and one with velvet vein fabric.

Look at how great this combination of fun fabrics with those colors and patterns work together! The double welting gives the chairs a really custom high end finish and they are beautifully upholstered. How gorgeous are those chairs?

Here you see them in her small dining room space. She has a leaf for the dining table too, for when she has guests, but it’s mostly just this more intimate setting for four. What do you think of this fun dining room project?
