In the living room, we selected a comfortable, solid wood and leather sling sofa from Article for our client. It features oversized, fiber-filled cushions and perfectly matches her request for soft curves and removable cushions. To complement the look, we styled it with a round Muuto coffee table in an oak finish. Above the sofa, we hung one of my own hand-woven tapestries to introduce bright colors and texture. Made from jute and rag paper, the piece is dyed for a rich, intense color that transforms the space, adding warmth and dimension. We completed the look with a beautiful pillow that picks up on the colors in the wallcovering and a cozy throw for extra comfort, both from Cozy Stylish Chic. We used the new engineered oak hardwood flooring throughout the entire house.
The next space we’d like to talk about is the Study/Office, an addition to the home that we mentioned in our previous post—the one with the window originally connecting it to the kitchen. As planned, we closed off that window and added drywall, making both the kitchen and study much more functional.
However, the most significant transformation in this room was the fireplace. The original design featured blue and white painted bricks, which didn’t align with our client’s preferred style. As you can see from the 'before' photo, it wasn’t the most appealing look for this space. We completely redesigned it into a more neutral and soothing focal point. The surface is finished with Portola Limewash Mission, adding texture that contrasts beautifully with the walls.
For seating, we selected two custom chairs from Hooker Furniture, upholstered in a blue and taupe tweed performance fabric, with an antique honey finish on the wood. The hexagon-shaped accent table and abstract painting over the fireplace are from Cozy Stylish Chic, adding a modern touch to the room.
Finally, we had custom cordless Roman shades made for our client, providing both privacy and decoration.
In the guest bedroom, we chose a custom sofa bed from Wesley Hall for our client, upholstered in a blue chevron woven high-performance fabric. The sofa features an Air Dream mattress for added comfort when extended for guests. Every aspect of this piece is fully customizable, from the arm shape to the foot and cushion styles. To complete the space, we selected accessories and a quilt-inspired enamel artwork that beautifully complemented the room.
This project was truly exciting, filled with unique challenges that we were thrilled to solve. The home originally had every room painted a different color, cottage cheese ceilings, three types of flooring, outdated lighting fixtures, and more. But in the end, we transformed it into a space with a cohesive, clean color palette, updated fixtures and finishes, and added some new furnishings.
