The Free Home Makeover Reveal!!

As we wrote about in our last post, we have been working hard for the past few weeks on a free makeover for a single mom and her two children and the installation has just happened.

We partnered with the non-profit organization, Pen + Napkin, to fundraise, design and install this makeover for Cajh and her kids.

Catie Bouchard, founder of Pen + Napkin, partners with various designers to create these makeovers for well deserving families. My design assistant, Kateryna Calderon, worked tirelessly alongside me, at Decor Revolution, to get the work done. And Synthia Avina from Pen + Napkin was a huge help on our project. There is a sense of urgency as the family is living in an apartment with just a mattress on the floor and a few old, donated items. There was a large, old television set, and a dining room table and 4 chairs that were in bad condition, but we were able to repurpose them and make them look like new, as you can see in the image above.

We gave her a nursery to bring her baby girl home to. And her son and daughter have a room to share now with bunk beds and some cute decor. She told me her son likes dinosaurs and batman and her daughter likes cats, so we did our best to make the space feel comfortable for both of them.

So many people helped make this project possible. Design blogger, Emily Henderson and her team helped spread the word about the project and made it possible to raise enough money to make it happen. Friends at Poly&Bark , OhJoy and shannonjenkinsdesigns, as well as Calico donated items to help make the house feel more like a home. My photographer, Chris Nolasco, donated his time to take photos of the finished space and the reveal for us.

And I just want to say thank you so much to all the volunteers that worked to install. They were all amazing. Ryan, Pru, Ron, Kateryna, Synthia, Carson, Jordan and Julie. We couldn’t have done it without them! And to all those who gave so generously online and purchased from our wish lists. Thank you! Thank you!! You know who you are. The joy on this mom’s face when she saw her new home is due to all your generosity. You made her dreams come true!!
